New Fellings.....



Lastly in this last chapters in the book The Giver Jonas has been selected for be the receiver of memories, and he is starting with his trainings, he is knowing, learning many things of how his job would be and how does it works. Also Jonas is learning how it feels to be the receiver of memories.  As every twelve had already start their own training and to know how to work as an adult.  Jonas meets the previous reviver, the Giver.  It’s an old man that had many things to say about the past and how the previous civilizations were and how things do had change like climate. Over time they have lost snow and climate, also they lived in a place in black and white.  Jonas had experience different feelings such as pain and pleasure. When the giver gives Jonas the memory of snow he felt so many pleasure, he enjoy it so much, but after that, he give him the memory of the sunshine a sunburn that was painful but at the same he like it.
´´And he could see, though his eyes were closed. He could see a bright, whirling torrent of crystals in the air around him, and he could see them gather on the backs of his hands, like a cold fur. Beyond through the swirl of what he now, somehow perceived was the thing the old man spoken of snow, he could look out and down a great distance. He was up high someplace. The ground was thick with the furry snow, but he sat slightly above it on hard, flat object. Sled, he knew abruptly. He was sitting on a thing called sled. And the sled itself seemed to be poised at the top long, extended mound that rose from the very land where he was. Even as he thought the word ´´mound´´, his new consciousness told him hill´´. (Lowry 80-81)
When I read this text I immediately connect to my own experience in the Cotopaxi when I was 4-5 years old, for the first time, the first time I touch snow, I watch that huge mountain covered with a white surface, I thought that it was his clothing, I thought that ´´she´´ cause at the end is a ´´he´´ was going to marry. I thought that HE was a bride. I felt so good breathing the cold air, feel the snow running down my hands   was amazing I felt free and special because I thought that anybody else had the chance I had to play with the braid before her weeding.

The Giver ( Chapter 6-8



The Giver (Chapter 5-8)
Through the book The Giver, in chapter 5-8 the day of the ceremony of twelve finally arrived, Jonas was a little bit impatient because he had been waiting for this moment a long period of time, at first it took long and boring cause the ceremony of twelve was celebrated with other ceremonies, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and after all of them the ceremony of twelve.  All of the Elevens were numbered (in other categories too) he was number nineteen (19), Fiona eighteen (18) and Pierre was twenty (20). After Fiona was his turn but the instead of saying nineteen (19) Chief Elder said twenty (20) leaving the number nineteen as a forgotten number. After she end saying everybody’s assignments she announce the community why   Jonas wasn't given his assignment, he had been selected to be the community's next receiver of memory, they knew about this because they had been watching him for year and he has the qualities is require to get this special and un-usual job.

´´Jonas prepared himself to walk to the stage when the applause ended and the Chief Elder picked up the next folder and looked down to the group to call forward the next new Twelve. He was clam now that his turn had come. He took a deep breath and smoothed his hair with his hand. Twenty, he heard his voice say clearly. ´´Pierre.´´ she skipped me, Jonas thought, stunned. Had he heard wrong? No. There was a sudden hush in the crowd, and he knew that the entire community realized that the Chief Elder moved from eighteen to twenty, leaving a gap. On his right, Pierre, with a startled look, rose from his seat and moved to the prestige.  A mistake. She made a mistake. Not at the ceremony of Twelve. ´´ (Lowry 57)

When I read this quote I automatically remember of an event that happened to me in 5th grade at my English class, we were making a debate. I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about but she start making questions to each one of us, and accidentally she named a person that was after me, she skipped from me,  after she end asking everybody she looked at me and told me ´´Ale which question I gave you?´´ Then she realize that she skipped accidently from me….. At my case it wasn’t  because I was selected or something like that, my teacher make a mistake making some questions, but after that I took my question and I had the change to answer it. At this part of chapter 7 I felt so identify, that felling of insecure and confuse.

First Events Of The Book

 The Giver  (Chapter 3-4)




In chapter three and four (3-4)  of the book ´´ The giver´´ Jonas father took baby Gabe home, after some steering at the baby Jonas realized that he and the baby Gabe had the same eye color.  They had lighter eyes than the most of the community where they lived. The majority of the citizens had darker eyes, which make them different, it also make Jonas think if he could be related with him. Also for the ceremony of twelve the eleven’s had to prepare themselves for that important step of their lives.  One way to prepare themselves was doing volunteer hours at different places. One of this places which Fiona, Asher and Jonas went was the ´´Hose Of the Old´´. They spend time bathing them and talking having a good conversation with old people that lived in there.  People that wasn’t old or new born was prohibited watched them naked.
´´He had been permitted an additional month in which to complete the hours,  and then given his assignment privately, with no applause, no celebration: a disgrace that had clouded his entire future.´´
´´It´good to have some volunteers here today´´ , the attendant told him. ´´ We celebrate a release this morning, and that always throws the schedule off a little, so things get back up.´´ She looked at a printed sheet. Let´s see. Asher and Fiona are helping in the bathing room. Why don’t you join them in there? You know where it is, don´t you? (pg 28)                                                  when I read this I imagine Jonas doing everything that the text said, I also imagine his happy face when he saw the attendant that received him at the entry of the center, I felt so good reading this cause I made a connection with my life…. Some times with my family ( specially with my mom) we do volunteer hours in which help people, old, kids, adults… people that need help, people that have a family and it´s hard for them to subs tent everyone, or simply we help, give love to  people that need love.  Besides is really fun, we change our way of thinking and looking our lives.  I also read in 6th grade a text that talk about people needs and feelings, when they are alone and when they have love.As a conclusion in chapter 3-4 of the book ´´The Giver´´ Jonas is preparing him for the ceremony of twelve. He also has baby Gabriel draughts of why are some many people with darker eyes and so few with lighter.  He have done volunteer hours and is obedient toward his parents, he enjoy his volunteer hours because he gain experience for a good job a good future.  Everybody making something different and making something fun makes us better persons and also in many ways we can learn something knew from this experience.

pre-reading post




As a pre-reading of the book ´´The Giver´´ written by Lois Lowry, I can tell that this book would be about a society that is ´´perfect´´ and Jonas a boy involved in this community would discover something, he would discover the truth, secrets hidden of it.  I can also tell that twelve (12) is an important age cause based in that Jonas will know about many things not been told, that would change his family, his community and also his way of  see the world, specially his own life.                                                                                                                                        This book has some clues that would make you thing about this book and how it can relates to our own world, when Lois Lowry says ´´ For all the children to whom we entrust the future.´´ she is saying that the children that soon would come adults would have to be responsible for their own future, that they have to make the wright decisions to move on successfully.  They are the next generation that would change everything in a positive or negative way.                                                                                                                                                         By reading the back of this book and look at it really quickly I can infer that this book would talk about the life and the consequences that this society and their member would have by the ´´rebellion´´ that a boy may have.  He would make the difference in his community


    It´s all in our hands, it´s all based in our decisions, actions, way of thinking.....
